Banking And Energy Industry Groups Making New Lows

Across all regions of the developed world, the banking and energy industry groups have been the worst performers. The MSCI World banking industry is within .5% of making a new 5-year low compared to the MSCI All Country World Index.

The MSCI World energy industry group plunged to new lows last October (right when the taper ended) and continued down from there.

When we separate out regional performance, we can see that banks and energy companies have been about the worst performers everywhere in the world YTD. The following tables show the YTD performance of all industry groups within the MSCI Europe, Asia and North America indexes.
